How to Get Your Home Ready for Thanksgiving

When preparing for Thanksgiving dinner at your home this year there are lots of things to think about. Your mind will be consumed with what to serve, how to decorate, your guest list, and your shopping list. What you may forget about until last minute is how to prepare your home for Thanksgiving dinner. This can be a stressful time, but well worth every minute of stress once you see the joy on your guests face.

In preparing your home for your Thanksgiving dinner many things will have to be done the night before of day of. Because of this it is important to get all of the planning and other preparations done as soon as possible. If you keep up with the cleaning and organization beforehand you can make it easier right before the party.

Get rid of all dust and finger prints. Clean all the dust off your end tables, and mantle. Your guests will be mingling in areas of your home that you may not look at on a regular basis. While you may only look at a certain corner of the room from a sitting position on your couch, your guests may chat and mingle standing up right in that corner. Cleaning all the glass in your home makes a world of difference. Clean glass looks so clean and crisp in your home. This task is especially important if you have small children in your home. Fingerprints and smudges are common in homes with children but not appropriate for a dinner party. You want your guests to focus on the décor of your home and not the dirt and dust. Most of the guests will remain in the living room, kitchen, and bathroom. If you have to omit a room from your cleaning for times sake your bedroom should be last on your list. Make sure to sweep under the cabinets and wipe off your baseboards. The attention to detail will make a world of difference.

Thanksgiving decorations look amazing with a clean home as a background. Hanging up streamers, balloons, and other decorations may look best if hung the day of. Streamers and balloons have a tendency to sink and deflate. If you have glass and other fancy decorations put out early make sure they are dusted and clean for the day of your party.

Another important factor to proper party planning is to make sure you have enough seating for all of your guests. Folding chairs and extra seating is good to have on hand. For dinner time you can rent seating or extra tables so that your guests are not squished around the table. It is a good idea to put in your request for rental equipment early to insure you get the seating you need.

Preparing your home is not limited to the inside of your home. The outside of  your home is the first impression your guests will receive. Clean any garbage pails and debris you have outside. Toys and personal equipment should be put away for the night. Your want your home to look clean and organized. If you think there might be snow the night of your party make sure all walkways are clear to avoid any accidents. It is also a good idea to move cars around and make space for as many cars as possible. If you have to move your cars to another area for the night to make room for your guests then do so ahead of time.

If you keep all of this in mind then your party should have a great backdrop. Your guests will feel at home and enjoy the party more if you take the time to prepare your home for their arrival.
